wallaba (plural wallabas)

  1. A leguminous tree (Eperua falcata) of Demerara, with pinnate leaves, reddish-brown wood, and clusters of red flowers.
    • 1836, Charles Waterton, Wanderings in South America:
      The wild red sage is also their favourite shrub, and they buzz like bees round the blossom of the wallaba tree.
