Cognate with Old Saxon āno (without), Old Frisian ōni (without), Old Norse án, ón (without), Ancient Greek ἄνευ (áneu, without), Gothic 𐌹𐌽𐌿 (inu, without). The Gothic word stems from Proto-Germanic *inō, the other cognates from *ēnō.
