From γεννᾰ́ω (gennáō, to beget, give birth to; produce, generate) +‎ -τωρ (-tōr, masculine agent noun suffix) from γέννα (génna) +‎ -ᾰ́ω (-áō), poetic form of γένος (génos, offspring). Doublet of γενέτωρ (genétōr).
