editLearned borrowing from Koine Greek ᾰ̓ποστηθῐ́ζω (apostēthízō)[1][2] or from Mediaeval,[3] from Hellenistic expression ἀπὸ στήθους (apò stḗthous), see από στήθους (apó stíthous, “by heart”).

- Synonym: απομνημονεύω (apomnimonévo)
Usage notes
editAlthough passive forms (αποστηθίζομαι (apostithízomai)) are not mentioned in dictionaries of either modern nor ancient and mediaeval Greek, they may be formed chiefly in present[4], but also in simple past (αποστηθίστηκα) and passive perfect participle αποστηθισμένος (apostithisménos). Learned forms, as in the older inflection of ἀποστηθίζω.
