From σαββᾰτῐ́ζω (sabbatízō, I keep the Sabbath, I observe the Sabbath, I sabbatise, I sabbatize) +‎ -ῐσμός (-ismós, verbal noun suffix), from σάββατον (sábbaton, Sabbath), from Hebrew שַׁבָּת (shabát).
