From зітх(ну́ти) (zitx(núty)) +‎ -а́ти (-áty), displacing the inherited form здиха́ти (zdyxáty) (compare Russian вздыха́ть (vzdyxátʹ), Belarusian уздыха́ць (uzdyxácʹ), Old East Slavic въздыхати (vŭzdyxati)).[1]

  1. to sigh (to inhale a larger quantity of air than usual, and immediately expel it)
    Perfective: зітхну́ти (zitxnúty)
