Inherited from Proto-Slavic *jьskati. Cognate with Bulgarian и́скам (ískam, I want), Sanskrit इच्छति (icchati, to desire), Serbo-Croatian ѝскати, ìskati (to look for), Lithuanian ieškoti (to seek), Old English āscian (whence English ask).
