Mongolian edit

MongolianCyrillic
ᠤᠳᠤᠷᠢᠳᠬᠤ
(uduridqu)
удирдах
(udirdax)

Etymology edit

From *udurid-, equivalent to Proto-Mongolic *udu- (to follow) +‎ -рь (-rʹ) (“sequence”) +‎ -дах (-dax) (“to guide a sequence (retinue), to manage”). Compare Kalmyk удр татх (udr tatx, to lead, literally to pull a sequence), Ordos ᠤᠳᠤᠷᠢᠳᠬᠤ (uduridqu, to take the initiative in doing something).

As for *udu- itself, it is likely a borrowing from Proto-Turkic *ūð- (to follow), compare Turkish uymak.
