Etymology edit
Inherited from Proto-Slavic *junakъ, from *junъ (“young”) + *-akъ (inherited into -ак (-ak)). Compare јунец (junec, “bullock”). Cognate with Old Church Slavonic юнакъ (junakŭ), Bulgarian юна́к (junák), Slovak jonák, Polish junak.
