Old Armenian edit

Etymology edit

The stem is փոքու- (pʻokʻu-). Traditionally ultimately derived from Proto-Indo-European *peh₂w- (few, little). The formal difficulties are explained by the "expressive" nature of the word and by dissimilatory and assimilatory changes. For the -ք- (-kʻ-) compare the Latin cognate paucus.
