Etymology
editThe original spelling is աւգն (awgn), from Parthian *abi-gūna-, ultimately from the preverb Proto-Iranian *Habí- with the root *gaw- (“to increase”), whence Avestan 𐬔𐬏𐬥𐬀𐬊𐬙𐬌 (gūnaoti, “to increase”). Related to օգուտ (ōgut).
