Inherited from Proto-Turkic *bïrak- (to abandon); cognate with Azerbaijani buraxmaq, Bashkir [script needed] (bıraqtır-), Chuvash пӑрах (părah), Karakhanid [script needed] (bıraq-) and Yakut бырах (bıraq).
