Acronym of الدَّوْلَة الْإِسْلَامِيَّة فِي الْعِرَاق وَالشَّام (ad-dawla al-ʔislāmiyya fī l-ʕirāq wa-š-šām, literally The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant). It resembles the Arabic words دَاعِس (dāʕis, that tramples) or دَاحِس (dāḥis, one who causes discord).
