  1. to tarry, to linger, to be slow [with عَلَى (ʕalā) ‘who affected’]
    • 7th century CE, Ṣaḥīḥ al-Buḵāriyy, 9:76:
      اِنْتَظَرْنَا الْحَسَنَ وَرَاثَ عَلَيْنَا حَتَّى قَرُبْنَا مِنْ وَقْتِ قِيَامِهِ
      intaẓarnā l-ḥasana warāṯa ʕalaynā ḥattā qarubnā min waqti qiyāmihi
      We expected Al-Ḥasan and he let us wait until the very time.
