Etymology
editBorrowed from Arabic مَطَرَة (maṭara, “waterskin”), from Aramaic מַטְרְתָא (maṭərṯā, “double sack for grain, gold etc.”), ultimately from Ancient Greek μετρητής (metrētḗs).

- waterskin, field-flask, a container for water normally made of tanned skin
- (chemistry) matrass, a type of bolthead flask used in chemical distillation
- a liquid measure around 10–20 litres and a dry measure over 5 kilograms
