Borrowed from Arabic مَطَرَة (maṭara, waterskin), from Aramaic מַטְרְתָא (maṭərṯā, double sack for grain, gold etc.), ultimately from Ancient Greek μετρητής (metrētḗs).

مطره (matara or metre or medre or metra) (definite accusative مطره‌یی (matarayı), plural مطره‌لر (mataralar))

  1. waterskin, field-flask, a container for water normally made of tanned skin
    Synonyms: آبكش (abkeş), طولوم (tulum), قربه (kırba)
  2. (chemistry) matrass, a type of bolthead flask used in chemical distillation
  3. a liquid measure around 10–20 litres and a dry measure over 5 kilograms
