editInherited from Proto-Iranian; compare Sogdian [script needed] (pyʾk /piyāk/, “onion”), Khotanese pau (“onion”). Perhaps ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *peyḱ-; compare Ancient Greek πικρός (pikrós, “bitter”).[1]
