Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *čatïġ (“framework”), a development of Proto-Turkic *čat- (“to bring together”), the same root of چاتمق (çatmak, “to bring together”).

چاتی • (çatı)

1. framework, the arrangement of support beams that represent a building's general shape and size

   Synonym: بدن (beden)

2. roof, the external covering at the top of a building used to protect the inside of a house

   Synonym: طام (dam)

3. truss, a structure made up of wooden beams, which is used to support a roof or bridge

   Synonym: مقص (makas)
