From Middle Persian *kōsag. Compare Arabic كَوْسَج(kawsaj), Old Georgian კოსაკი (ḳosaḳi), კოვსაკი (ḳovsaḳi), Middle Armenian գոսակ (gosak), Armenian քոսակ (kʿosak), Iranian borrowings. Note also Old Armenian կոյս (koys, virgin).
