From the root ܓ-ܒ-ܒ (ɡ-b-b). Compare Arabic جُبّ (jubb), Hebrew גֹּב (goḇ) and גֵּב (gēḇ), Aramaic גב (/⁠gōb⁠/, pit, moat), Akkadian 𒁺𒁍 (/⁠gubbu⁠/, reservoir, cistern).
