ܡܚܪ
Assyrian Neo-Aramaic edit
Etymology edit
Learned borrowing from Classical Syriac ܡܚܪ (mḥār); cognate to Turoyo ܪܰܡܚܶܠ (ramḥel) and Hebrew מָחָר (makhár). The connection some scholars see with Akkadian 𒅆 (maḫrum, “front; former”) is unlikely.
