Etymology

Inherited from Prakrit 𑀚𑀮𑀇 (jalaï), from Sanskrit ज्वलति (jválati). Cognate with Konkani जळ्चे (zaḷce), Gujarati જળવું (jaḷvũ), Hindi जलना (jalnā), Punjabi ਜਲਣਾ (jalṇā) / جَلنا (jalnā), Marathi जळणे (jaḷṇe), Assamese জলা (zola).
