Nominative inflection of আপন (apon) "self, own", from Prakrit 𑀅𑀧𑁆𑀧𑀡 (appaṇa), from Sanskrit আত্মন্ (ātmán) "self, soul, breath". Cognate with formal pronouns such as Odia ଆପଣ (āpaṇa), Marathi आपण (āpaṇ), Gujarati આપ (āpa), and Hindi आप (āp), and reflexives such as Hindi अपना (apnā). Doublet of আত্মা (attã), a tatsama.
