Inherited from Sanskrit কিংচিদ্ (kiṃcid, anything). Cognate with Sylheti ꠇꠤꠍꠥ (kisú), ꠇꠤꠌ꠆ꠍꠥ (kiccú); Bengali কিছু (kichu); Hindustani کچھ / कुछ (kuch).

Inherited from Prakrit *𑀓𑀺𑀙𑁆𑀢𑀼 (*kichtu), from earlier *𑀓𑀺𑀁𑀘𑀺𑀢𑀼 (*kiṃcitu) with -ch- from -śc- in कश्चित् (kaścit) (whence also কেউ (keu)), from *𑀓𑀺𑀁‌𑀘𑀺 (*kiṃ‌ci) +‎ 𑀢𑀼 (tu), from Sanskrit किंचिद् (kiṃcid, anything) and तु (tu) respectively; the first element is from Proto-Indo-Aryan *kímćíd, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *kímčíd, from Proto-Indo-European *kʷím-kʷíd, from *kʷím (which, that) +‎ *kʷíd (indefinite marker).
