Cognate with Bengali খীর (khir, inspissated milk), Sinhalese කිරි (kiri), Odia ଖିରା (khirā, inspissated milk), Hindi खीर (khīr, kheer), Urdu کھیر (khīr, kheer), Sinhalese කිරි (kiri, milk), Avestan 𐬑𐬱𐬎𐬎𐬌𐬛- (xšuuid-), Northern Kurdish şîr, Persian شیر (šir), Zazaki şıd, şıt.
