Etymology edit

From Proto-Southwestern Tai *ɡraːnꟲ² (lazy), from Old Chinese (OC *raːnʔ, “lazy”).[1] Cognate with Northern Thai ᨣᩕ᩶ᩣ᩠ᨶ, Khün ᨤ᩶ᩣ᩠ᨶ, Lao ຄ້ານ (khān), ᦆᦱᧃᧉ (xaan²), Shan ၶၢၼ်ႉ (khâ̰an), Tai Nüa ᥑᥣᥢᥳ (xȧan).
