Etymology edit

Probably from Old Khmer rān (“to invade, seize, or occupy (a territory)”). Cognate with Modern Khmer រាន (riən, “to encounter or confront (enemy in battle); to affront; to invade; etc”). Extended as Thai รบาญ (rá-baan), รำบาญ (ram-baan), รำราญ.
