Etymology

edit

Connection with Latin sentīna (bilgewater) is impossible in Indo-European terms, as *sm̥- would give ἁ- (ha-) and not ἁν- (han-). Has been compared with Hittite [script needed] (ḫan-, to draw water), although it requires an unusual suffix -τλος (-tlos).
