Beekes reconstructs Proto-Indo-European *tḱiH-in (kite), connecting the word with Armenian ցին (cʻin, kite), Avestan 𐬯𐬀𐬉𐬥𐬀 (saēna, a mythical bird), and Sanskrit श्येन (śyena, eagle, falcon).
