Kanji in this term

Grade: 1
on'yomi

EtymologyEdit

ローマ(Rome, Roman) +‎ (character).

Note that it is not ×ローマン字 (rōmanji) – ローマ is from Portuguese, not English; this is an easy mistake for English speakers to make. Compare however ローマン体, which does use ‘n’, because that word is borrowed from English.

PronunciationEdit

NounEdit

ローマ字 ‎(hiragana and katakana ローマじ, romaji rōmaji)

  1. Latin alphabet
  2. romaji (Japanese written in the standard 26-character latin script).
