Etymology edit
Compound of 唯心 (yuishin, “spiritualism”) + 論 (-ron, “theory”).
Coined by Japanese philosopher Inoue Tetsujirō in 1881 in his work 哲学字彙 (Tetsugaku Jii, “Dictionary of Philosophy”) as a translation of English idealism and immaterialism.[1][2]
