1. quyi; a category of traditional, usually non-staged, Chinese vocal art forms such as ballad singing (唱曲 (chàngqǔ) or 彈唱／弹唱 (tánchàng)), storytelling (說書／说书 (shuōshū)), comic dialogues (小品 (xiǎopǐn)), clapper talk (快板 (kuàibǎn)), and crosstalk (相聲／相声 (xiàngsheng))

Usage notes

The term 曲藝／曲艺 acquired wide usage only after 1949. It is nearly synonymous with the earlier term 說唱／说唱 (shuōchàng).
