Compare northern Gyeongsang 사모랍다 (samorapda, to be brutish, to be malicious) (attested since the eighteenth century), also Middle Korean 사오〮납다〮 (Yale: sàwónàptá, “to be fierce, to be malicious”) > Seoul 사납다 (sanapda).

  1. (of an object or person) to be difficult to deal with
  2. to be dangerous, to be unpropitious
    Synonym: 사납다 (sanapda)
    팔자 상그랍다. (Gyeongsang dialect, Changwon)
    Ga-neun palja-do sanggeurapda.
    Even his destiny is bad.
  3. to be disorienting
    Synonym: 사납다 (sanapda)
    그리 댕기노? 정신 쌍그럽구로. (Gyeongsang dialect, Changwon)
    Wa geuri daenggino? Jeongsin ssanggeureopguro.
    Why are you going back and forth like that? It's disorienting.
  4. (of a blade) to be sharp
    Synonym: 날카롭다 (nalkaropda)
