Suffix

edit

-ick

  1. Obsolete spelling of -ic.

Usage notes

edit
  • Generally, the k fell out of use by the end of the 19th century, with a few exceptions, such as magick and mystick. However, the ending k exists in derived terms ending in -ed, -er and -ing to clarify that the pronunciation does not sound as s (e.g. "trafficking", "panicked").
