Etymology edit
From Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰólh₃tom (“gold”), from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰelh₃- (“yellow; gleam; to shine”). Cognate with Latvian zȩ̀lts, English gold. See also Persian زر (zar).
