Bunnik
Dutch
editEtymology
editFirst attested as bunninchem in 918-948. Etymology unclear. The toponym appears to be derived from an unclear first element and either the suffix Proto-Germanic *-ikja- or Latin -acum. The element Old Dutch hēm (“home, settlement”) is a scribal insertion.
Compare Blerick, Cuijk, Geverik, Lopik, Maurik, Mook, Niftrik, Odijk, Varik, Woezik and Fellerich.
