EtymologyEdit

Borrowed from Latin Corsica (from Ancient Greek Κορσίς (Korsís)). Other recorded names are Cyrnos, Cernealis and Cirné. These are all probably descended from Proto-Indo-European *(s)ker (to turn, bend), referring to the island's circular shape. Compare circle and ring, also derived from (s)ker-.
