Etymology 1 edit

Noun edit

Erziehungsberechtigter m (adjectival, definite nominative der Erziehungsberechtigte, genitive (des) Erziehungsberechtigten, plural Erziehungsberechtigte, definite plural die Erziehungsberechtigten, feminine Erziehungsberechtigte)

  1. parent, (legal) guardian (male or of unspecified gender)
Usage notes edit

This term is generally restricted to pseudolegal use and is rooted in the pedagogical sector while being avoided by jurists. German, Austrian or Swiss family law does not employ this term; due to the weight of pedagogues it occurs in SGB VIII, JuSchG, and Lower Saxony’s schooling statute, and once peripherally in NRW’s schooling statute. The actual civil-law-based term is in the FRG Personensorgeberechtigter.
