Lebertran
German
editEtymology
editLeber (“liver”) + Tran (“fish oil”)
Pronunciation
editNoun
editLebertran m (strong, genitive Lebertranes or Lebertrans, no plural)
Usage notes
edit- There is a widespread belief in the German-speaking countries that cod liver oil is made from whale livers. This may be due to the fact that the word Tran most often refers to whale oil. Compare the same in Dutch levertraan.
