Etymology

From the Hanyu Pinyin romanization of the Mandarin 龍港／龙港 (Lónggǎng, “Dragon Port”).

• Of the city in Zhejiang: a blend of its former name Longjiang Port Area (龍江港區／龙江港区 (Lóngjiāng gǎngqū)) adopted upon its elevation to town status in 1983. The name Longjiang itself derived from the "Qinglong River" (青龍江／青龙江 (qīnglóng jiāng)), used locally for the lower Ao (鰲江／鳌江 (áo jiāng)).
