Etymology

edit

Borrowed from English manager.

Pronunciation

edit
  • IPA(key): /ˈmɛnɛd͡ʒɐ/, /-nə-/, /-nɪ-/
  • Audio:(file)

Noun

edit

Manager m (strong, genitive Managers, plural Manager, feminine Managerin)

  1. manager (see usage notes below) (male or of unspecified sex, sometimes female)
  2. agent of an artist or sportsperson (male or of unspecified sex, sometimes female)
Synonym: (more common for sportspeople) Agent

Usage notes

edit
  • The word is used in a narrower sense in German than it is in English. Generally, it refers to a member of the management of a company or profit-oriented organization, usually one of larger size. Due to this use, German Manager may have a negative connotation, particularly in Socialist or left-wing contexts.
