From Neger (negro) +‎ Kuss (kiss).

Pronunciation edit

  • IPA(key): [ˈneːɡɐˌkʰʊs]
  • Hyphenation: Ne‧ger‧kuss
  • (file)

Noun edit

Negerkuss m (strong, genitive Negerkusses, plural Negerküsse)

  1. (dated, now offensive) chocolate-coated marshmallow treat, chocolate teacake
Synonyms: Schokokuss, Schaumkuss, (now often offensive) Mohrenkopf

Usage notes edit

The term Negerkuss was more common in the past. Due to its reference to the discriminatory term Neger, it is now considered offensive. According to DWDS, around the mid-1990s it was replaced in public usage by Schokokuss or Schaumkuss. Duden strongly recommends replacing it with either of these terms.
