editAlternative forms
edit- Negerkuß (pre-1996 orthography)
Etymology
editFrom Neger (“negro”) + Kuss (“kiss”).
Pronunciation
editNoun
editNegerkuss m (strong, genitive Negerkusses, plural Negerküsse)
- (dated, now offensive) chocolate-coated marshmallow treat, chocolate teacake
- Synonyms: Schokokuss, Schaumkuss, (now often offensive) Mohrenkopf
Usage notes
editThe term Negerkuss was more common in the past. Due to its reference to the discriminatory term Neger, it is now considered offensive. According to DWDS, around the mid-1990s it was replaced in public usage by Schokokuss or Schaumkuss. Duden strongly recommends replacing it with either of these terms.
