editFrom Pre-Germanic *plok-. Kroonen connects with Ancient Greek πλάξ (pláx, “plane, plain, something flat”), from Proto-Indo-European *pleh₂- (“flat, broad, plain”), sharing several Germanic cognates with Proto-Germanic *flaką (“something flat”); more at English flake.[1]
