If the reconstruction is *sunti, possibly a compound of *su (unknown, possibly the same source as Japanese (sune, shin)) + *ti (life essence, spirit, power). Alternatively, PJ *tuy might be the reconstruction of Old Japanese , , (ti, life essence, spirit, power; blood; milk), connecting with Old Japanese (tu, spit), from the way that blood and milk can drop to a ground.
