From Proto-Balto-Slavic *lank-ei-tei, causative/iterative of *lenk- (to bend). Cognate with Lithuanian lankýti (to visit), Latvian lùocît (to bend repeatedly, to move, to arrange). See *lęťi (to bend) for further etymology.
