SOP. Apparently an official region of England, but that's a mistake based on this stupid Wikipedia article which uses the wrong name. The actual legislation which conferred the official name clearly just says "North East", and that's by far the most common term used in everyday language as well, both formally and informally.
I suspect this mistake came about because English regions were used as the basis for the UK's EU Parliament constituencies, and the corresponding one was indeed called "North East England", but afaik we don't include constituency names, because they're often cumbersome and have no real lexical significance (e.g. "Cumbernauld, Kilsyth and Kirkintilloch East").
In any event, this is just North East + England, and we should get rid. Theknightwho (talk) 02:30, 31 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Delete as SOP (I’ve tidied up North East to account for the fact that Cleveland is no longer a county btw) Overlordnat1 (talk) 09:29, 31 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I have added this entry as a synonym of North East. DonnanZ (talk) 12:44, 22 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Keep? If Wikipedia article is correct Can you get the WP article fixed first then? No worse than South Korea, just smaller. Equinox 10:48, 1 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
I can certainly try, but it’s still SOP because the evidence shows that the official name doesn’t have the word “England”. I’ve started a discussion on WP, but they’re being predictably difficult. It’s also not like South Korea, which is my point. South Korea is not SOP, whereas North East England is, because the actual name is North East, and England is just a way to disambiguate. You would probably need to be a WP admin to do that. Although I have created WP articles, I don't have enough knowledge for revising the title of an article. It's best left alone. DonnanZ (talk) 13:08, 22 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Keep, I think, the term exists outside Wikipedia. Other entries to consider are North East Derbyshire, North East Lincolnshire, and North East Land, an anglicisation which needed attention. DonnanZ (talk) 19:19, 3 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Those aren't SOP, because they're official names. This isn't. "North East of England" is completely acceptable, and more common, in fact. Still SOP. Theknightwho (talk) 03:29, 6 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Whether this is official or not, the term exists. I found a quote, and added it. I think this should have been an RFV. DonnanZ (talk) 12:35, 22 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Some GNV: (North East*0.1),North East England,North East of England,North-East England at the Google Books Ngram Viewer.. Not all that rare, while of course much rarer than North East, which in GNV covers North East U.S., North East Derbyshire, etc. If we keep CAT:en:Regions of England, why not this one as long as it is attested? There is also North-East England in google books:North East England. If we know positively this is less common or unofficial, we can say so in the entry. --Dan Polansky (talk) 17:02, 3 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Keep. I've reconsidered my position as North East England is rarely if ever used to refer to all places that are technically to the North and East of the geographic centre of England (officially in the middle of a farm near to the town of Coton-in-the-Elms in Derbyshire but sometimes considered to be much further South, such as Meriden or the Midland Oak in Lillington, both in Warwickshire). I don't think many people would refer to Derby as being in North East England, for example. Despite my improvement to our North East entry itself, this probably doesn't count as SOP. --Overlordnat1 (talk) 13:06, 22 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
