Remove incorrect translation

edit

I want to remove an incorrect translation. How do I do that on this protected page ? --Fenring 08:44, 29 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I unprotected it. 9 months in a row seems enough for me; of course, it can easily be locked again if necessary. Mglovesfun (talk) 12:04, 29 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

A hot issue

edit

Tech support desk talks about "a hot issue" when it's one that is being reported by many users (and thus needing an urgent fix). The closest sense we have for this seems to be "popular; in demand", which sounds overly positive. Equinox 15:06, 7 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

hot on one’s tail

edit

I don’t think any of the current senses include the meaning that ‘hot’ has when one says ‘I was hot on his tail’, ‘he was hot on my tail’, etc. Overlordnat1 (talk) 14:15, 5 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Actually adjective sense 6 covers this, I’ve just added a usex (though perhaps we could do with an entry for hot on ones tail or hot on someones tail?). Overlordnat1 (talk) 09:16, 28 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

In sense of hot cargo

edit

I just created hot cargo but now realise that "hot" may stand alone in a sentence, like this:

  • 2012, Arthur Webster, Down To The Sea: A Merchant Mariner's Story
They decided that all cargo was hot and the ships would not be worked. Not even foreign flag ships would be exempt from this secondary boycott.

Perhaps worth adding into this entry at some stage, if we can find more examples. Equinox 03:52, 19 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

noun hot top

edit

heard what might be this today ... "[you're] on the hot" for some boys practicing a sport in the parking lot; that is, the hot top. But maybe it means hot zone and is sport-specific (but i'd expect in then). i will try to find more information. a third noun sense is the hots. Soap 13:25, 1 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Return to "hot" page.
