Template talk:pl-pronunciation
@BigDom, @Shumkichi, @KamiruPL, @Hergilei, @Hythonia, user @Surjection has graciously spent their time creating this unified template for us that should really speed things up for us. I've tried to be as detailed as possible in the documentation, please read it. I'd like to emphasize that prefixed words do not get broken up correctly and should be respelled. Please ping me here if there are problems with the module. Whenever we update the IPA module, it will update here, as well (like how soon we're going to get rid of the palatalization markers)
EDIT: We can create a shortcut for this template. I was thinking 'pl-p'
EDIT 2: scratch that, it's pl-p. Vininn126 (talk) 11:26, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Vininn126, Surjection Great work! Just to confirm, does this mean that we'll be having e.g. -at͡sja from now on rather than -at͡sʲja like it is currently? BigDom 16:41, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
- As per the conversation at the IPA template, the /ʲ/'s will be removed, as they're more phonetic than phonemic. Vininn126 (talk) 16:46, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
- Cool, I haven't got around to reading the whole discussion there but I agree anyway. Cheers, BigDom 16:50, 25 November 2021 (UTC)

IPA parameter not working
edit@Surjection, Vininn126 Not sure if it's just me, but the IPA parameter is throwing an error no matter what I put in there. Basically, the template doesn't produce the correct IPA where ą or ę comes at the end of a syllable when you provide a pronunciation respelling in parameter 1 - see zagłębić, ustąpić etc. I tried specifying the IPA explicitly to get round this but am getting the following message every time: Lua error in Module:IPA at line 197: bad argument #1 to 'str_gsub' (string expected, got nil).
On a separate note, a bot has gone round and created categories corresponding to these wrong transcriptions (e.g. Category:Rhymes:Polish/ɛbit͡ɕ/3 syllables). I can easily go round and delete these and replace them with the correct ones, but just FYI. Cheers, BigDom 19:25, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
- I fixed the |ipa= parameter but ideally the template should be able to handle these cases automatically. — SURJECTION / T / C / L / 20:42, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for doing that so quickly. Yeah, I agree it would be better if it was automatic, but for now at least I'll go and add the correct IPA to the affected entries. Cheers, BigDom 07:22, 6 December 2021 (UTC)
extra syllables
editIs there a way to stop it from creating extra syllables, e.g.
- chełpliwy, input is chełp'li.wy but it converts to cheł‧p‧li‧wy
- cząstka, cząst.ka but converts to cząs‧t‧ka
- transformacja, trans.for'ma.cja but converts to tran‧s‧for‧ma‧cja
Not sure why it's doing this. Hergilei (talk) 19:30, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Hergilei I tried a few different inputs and couldn't recreate it, what were you entering? Vininn126 (talk) 19:41, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- For chełpliwy, I entered chełp'li.wy and it resulted in cheł‧p‧li‧wy with p getting its own syllable. Hergilei (talk) 19:48, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- Oh, in the syllabification. @Surjection, any idea why it's doing this? Vininn126 (talk) 20:18, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- If I understand correctly, it should be chełp‧li‧wy? — SURJECTION / T / C / L / 20:19, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- That is correct. Vininn126 (talk) 20:21, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Surjection And also it should be cząst-ka, trans-for-ma-cja (with the respellings). In general, no consonant should be on its own. Vininn126 (talk) 20:45, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- Is it OK now? — SURJECTION / T / C / L / 20:51, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks so much! Hergilei (talk) 03:35, 27 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Surjection@Hergilei I think this should be the last ping, because those pages now work. Thanks! Vininn126 (talk) 20:57, 26 January 2022 (UTC)

False IPA output
editThere are some words that are converted to IPA the wrong way
- If ń stands before [s] or [z] it become [j̃] instead of [ɲ]
- If an a is before a nasal like [n], [m], [j̃] or [ɲ] it becomes [ã]
- Like in Gdańsk, [ɡdaɲsk] is wrong, [ɡdãj̃sk] would be right
Phillipm0703 (talk) 13:03, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Phillipm0703 These are phonetic transcriptions, not phonemic. You even wrote them in [] not // yourself. Vininn126 (talk) 13:05, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- Also there will be a new module soon anyway. Vininn126 (talk) 13:05, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
