Plurals, headers & {{fa-regional}}

Regarding our conversation on phasing out {{fa-regional}} from entries, except for cases involving vocabulary differences: I am noticing that we may be able to phase it out of Tajik easily and would just need to make two changes:

1) Most Tajik entries seem to use {{tg-infl-noun}} to show plurals so I would like to remove plurals from the headword. This would only really regularize entries as they are most of the time, plus some words can have up to 3-4 plural forms + transliterations... the headword can get very crowded. Showing plurals under ====Inflection==== is also the common practice for Hindi-Urdu nouns, so there is precedent. I can do this right now but would need a bot job to clean up.

2) Adding Persian spelling to headword. We already discussed and agreed to this but I'd prefer to move plurals first to prevent the headword from getting crowded. Would also need a bot job for the bulk of entries, I can manually handle ambiguous cases.

So are there any objections to me making these changes? and @Benwing2 would you, or someone else, be able to do a bot job after the changes are made? — SAMEER (؂・؄・؏) 22:54, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

Looks good to me. Incidentally, I wasn't aware that را was written joined in Tajik, it seems to me to be a choice born out of linguistic ignorance but if that's what they do then too bad.--Saranamd (talk) 06:57, 22 May 2024 (UTC)

Made the change and was able to add a category to all tg-head templates that have the deprecated parameters, so Category:User:Sameerhameedy/Tajik entry maintenance shows all entries that need to be fixed. But that only includes terms using tg-head templates, which a lot of entries do not. — SAMEER (؂・؄・؏) 01:16, 23 May 2024 (UTC)

@Sameerhameedy Sorry for the late reply. I'm not sure how irregular plurals are in Persian and Tajik, but if they're somewhat irregular, I usually prefer to have them listed in the headword so they are easy to view at a glance, even if they're also found in (hidden) inflection tables. See for example the handling of Latin bonus (along with Danish on the same page), Ancient Greek ἄγρα, Russian and German headwords, etc. It doesn't seem that just having the plural would make the headword too crowded. However, if you really don't like this, an alternative is to have the plural visible on the inflection table when it's closed. This approach is used, for example, in Proto-Germanic terms like Reconstruction:Proto-Germanic/dagaz and PIE terms like Reconstruction:Proto-Indo-European/bʰréh₂tēr (where it's the genitive that's visible when the table is closed, but the code can be borrowed to make it display the plural instead).
