"Add" doesn't mean "make the quantity more"; that would be "increase". Consider: "I increased x (or the value of x) by adding 3 to it". Compare: "I added 3 to x" (I did not "add x"). Equinox ◑ 15:15, 26 October 2013 (UTC)

The opposite of "reduce" is both "increase" and "add", isn't it?" For example, the opposite of "We reduced using bolts." Your sentences don't look right. Assuming you mean the mechanical fasteners: "We reduced the use of bolts"; "we increased the use of bolts"; definitely not "we added using bolts", and not "we added the use of bolts". Equinox ◑ 16:06, 26 October 2013 (UTC)

It looks like there is some argument over whether 増やす belongs as a translation at add. It does belong at one of the senses, probably at "to make an addition" right next to 追加する. My JA-EN dictionary, Progressive, gives the following example:

財産(ざいさん)を殖(ふ)やす

zaisan o fuyasu

add to one's fortune

Note that the example uses 殖やす, an alternative spelling of 増やす. There's a minor nuance which is that 殖やす is often used in the context of wealth or savings.

By the way, recently the Japanese templates have been updated so that less typing is necessary. If it's ok I'll demonstrate by tweaking the formatting at 滅亡.
