• Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
• Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
• Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
• If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
• If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.

A BabelBox for Your Userpage

I consider having a BabelBox to be important for various reasons, but if you don't want to display one at your userpage, then I'll understand.

Could you add ones for English and Spanish (native speaker), French basic, and German and Central Sierra Miwok student

So is your native language English, Spanish or both? We don't have BabelBox templates for Central Sierra Miwok, not yet.

Both, my mom taught me Spanish while my father simultaneously taught me English as a baby. What's the difference between French and German 0, 1, and 2? Can we create a Central Sierra Miwok one?Baymiwuk (talk) 09:30, 4 July 2018 (UTC)

From Wiktionary:Babel:

xx-0 if you don't understand the language practically at all. You can use this if there's some reason why you might be expected to know the language better, or to indicate that you know something very little about it.

xx-1 for basic command (the ability to understand the language somewhat and to ask or answer simple questions)

xx-2 ability to modify articles and to participate in discussions

xx-3 for advanced or fluent understanding (the ability to write articles in this language without difficulties, minor errors may occur)

xx-4 if you have a grasp of the language comparable to a native speaker, but are not a native speaker

xx if you're a native speaker

For French I can have basic conversations with peolple in my shop, with German I know a few phrases only lot's of vocabulary letters numbers etc.Baymiwuk (talk) 19:16, 4 July 2018 (UTC)

Pronunciation recordings

Hi again. The {{WOTD}} (Word of the Day) template wasn't originally designed to deal with .flac files, but since you have been creaing pronunciation recordings in this format, I have updated the template. If you have created a sound file that has exactly the same filename as the Wiktionary entry (including hyphens and spaces, e.g., File:ark at ee.flac), this will now be automatically displayed by {{WOTD}}. However, if the sound file is different (e.g., File:whipsmart.flac), you will need to manually add the parameter |audio=whipsmart.flac to {{WOTD}} (e.g., see "Wiktionary:Word of the day/August 2"). — SGconlaw (talk) 12:09, 3 August 2018 (UTC)

Come to think of it, I suggest that you should follow the Wikimedia Commons filenaming convention for pronunciation recordings, e.g.', "File:En-us-whip-smart.flac". Let me know if you do so, and I will adjust {{WOTD}} accordingly. — SGconlaw (talk) 12:19, 3 August 2018 (UTC)

Like this. Also, you don't have to add audio files manually to WOTDs like "Wiktionary:Word of the day/August 6". If you have named the audio file in the format "File:En-us-[entry name].flac" it will appear automatically. Thanks! — SGconlaw (talk) 17:47, 5 August 2018 (UTC)
